Mid-engined feel for new Porsche 718 EV

PORSCHE has confirmed that its electric successor to the 718 sports car will use a unique stacked mid-mounted battery architecture, maximising range and minimising weight.

Head of safety systems, Dr. Simon Maurer, told Auto Express: "An underfloor battery will be impossible - not only for the centre of gravity, but also for dimensions." As a result, the new 718, which will be offered in coupé Cayman and soft-top Boxster guises, will adopt the same arrangement as 2021's Mission R concept. This will give the EV sports car a similar weight distribution to that of a traditional ICE sports model, and allow for a much lower driving position than in the Taycan.
