Auto Components India
|July 2024
In keeping with the rising demand for advanced and affordable safety solutions, Continental Automotive India augments TPMS capacity, writes Ashish Bhatia.
Continental Automotive India has expanded the production of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in India. The company has doubled its existing capacity with 3.3 million wheel units per year. With its expansion, it is claimed to have become the first tier 1 to exclusively manufacture TPMS locally for the Indian automotive market. Its second-generation TPMS is claimed to enhance safety and sustainability and gives the company leverage for export markets like Korea. Averred Ramnath Sivaraman, Head of Motion Technologies and Services, within Business Area Safety and Motion, Continental Automotive India, “Keeping in mind the growing demand and the evolving market needs, Continental has expanded the existing TPMS line. This validates Continental’s perseverance in meeting the rising demands for advanced, and affordable safety technologies.”
Capacity augmentation
The launch of this second-generation TPMS will contribute to cleaner mobility and further advance vehicle safety by ensuring optimal tyre pressure as per Sivaraman. The company is committed to offering safe mobility led by ‘Vision Zero’. The capacity augmentation at the Bengaluru plant is allocated to the prospects for the passenger cars segment. It is said that the expansion comes as a response to the increasing market demand in India and targets to significantly enhance the production capacity. With an initial capacity of 3.3 million wheel units per year, the new TPMS line is an expansion of the existing one.
