Ford's 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel Ranger raised the ute bar when it arrived in 2022.

Ranger double cab, dual range 4x4 ute prices kick off at $50,880 for the 125kW/405Nm 2.0-litre turbodiesel/six-speed auto XL. The 150kW/500Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin turbodiesel/10-speed automatic XL is $54,380.

Other models with this drivetrain include XLS at $57,630, XLT at $63,640, Sport at $66, 140, Wildtrak at $69,640 and Wildtrak X at $77,640.

The 184kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel, also with the 10-speed auto, starts at $68,840 in XLT specification; Sport is $71,340, Wildtrak is $74,840 and Platinum is $80,640.

The 2.0-litre twin turbodiesel is a sweet engine, with good fuel economy and deceptively strong pulling power. However the 3.0-litre V6's 100Nm of added grunt is worth its extra asking price, especially if you're going to tow on a regular basis.

An extra two cylinders simply does the job in a much more effortless manner, and although it doesn't feel like there's 184kW of power underfoot

when you plant it, acceleration is respectable enough.
