BMW iX FROM $142,900

BMW's first built from the ground-up electric SUV, the iX, fits between the X5 and X6, so it's a big unit.

Despite its proportions, this is a five-seater only.

Out of the box, the BMW has the driving range to challenge Tesla and the luxury to rival Porsche.

The iX xDrive45 M Sport, priced at $142,900, is the new entry-level model from mid-2025 and has a larger 94.8kWh battery pack.

The iX xDrive50, priced at $185,400, has a 112kWh battery pack (with 105.2kWh of usable capacity) as standard.

At the top of the lineup, the M60, with 455kW and 1100Nm, is priced at $233,400. It takes just 3.8 seconds to reach 100km/h and its 112kWh battery has a claimed range of up to 566km.

According to official European standard tests, the iX xDrive45 has a real-world driving range of 490km to 602km while the iX xDrive50 can do between 550km and 631km.

On test, we weren't able to run the battery completely flat, but a range of up between 580km to 600km (xDrive50) in normal driving seems a safe bet.

Inside, the dash has minimalist “future is now” styling typical of EVs, with a large infotainment screen and a console with only the bare essentials for buttons and dials.
