AUDI Q6 E-TRON FROM $99,900

Audi was one of the first premium car makers to really take the electric vehicle revolution seriously, launching its range of E-Tron vehicles globally and pouring serious investment and engineering nous into making them attractive to early adopters.

While the early versions seemed, and looked, like radical departures from mainstream Audi offerings, the new Audi Q6 E-Tron is something different, because it feels like a fully formed premium German vehicle that just happens to have fully electric underpinnings.

Indeed, it looks and feels a lot like the mid-sized Audi Q5 SUV (a new range has just been launched, powered by combustion engines, with plugin hybrid variants to follow), which it notionally competes with, despite being more expensive.

The new Q6 is the first Audi built on the new PPE - or Premium Platform Electric - which it shares with the excellent Porsche Macan. This means it's not, in any way, an electric powertrain being shoved into a car that was initially designed to be a combustion vehicle. The Q6 E-Tron is an EV from the ground up.

It also represents the pinnacle of what Audi can do with this technology, and the benefits of its previous efforts.
