Measures in place to protect eventing's future

British Eventing operated at a deficit last year but is to save £176,000 in 2026 without reducing safety or value

MONEY is tight, but British Eventing (BE) is taking measures to improve efficiency and bring in extra income to protect the sport's future.

That was the message in the financial update at BE's AGM on 16 December.

In 2024, BE made a £13,000 deficit compared to a surplus of £175,000 in 2023 and the organisation has operated at a deficit in 2025.

INCREASED COSTS

FINANCE director Wayne Schofield explained that the decrease is “mainly due to reduced membership numbers and horse registrations and increased insurance costs”.

BE remains solvent, with £561,000 in cash at the end of 2024, but this figure is down £97,000 compared to 2023.

“That is still a fairly safe level of cash, however it is reducing, so refilling those reserves is a focus for 2025 and 2026,” said Mr Schofield.
