HEART BEAT AT MY FEET Pets Keep You Fit Too

September - October 2023

People ask me what is the secret of my fitness, my up-beat-ness. Pssst… let me answer that today. I have dogs in my life. My pets, my saviours. For the past two decades. And they have not only kept me fit, but also sane.

HEART BEAT AT MY FEET Pets Keep You Fit Too

How does it work? It’s simple. They keep you on your toes, often on your knees, sometimes even prostrate – under the bed, when you have to pull them out from under where they are hiding, shivering, scared to death, with all the those crazy eardrum-shattering firecrackers that begin around Diwali and end only after the New Year.

Basically, having pets is a total workout. You walk them, play with them, you are lifting them up, rolling with them, throwing toys around, playing catch, racing and chasing them and what not. Mine, as you all know, are medium-sized Lhasa Apsos. Well, yes, I have just one now, Tasha, but I still can’t get to speak about Inshy in the past tense. Point I am making is that bigger dogs will keep you even more exercised.

So while having a dog substitutes your gym workouts and keeps you fit, the meditative aspect is even bigger. Even more beneficial. Living in current times, we all know, is rather stressful. And our pets really do come to our rescue.
