Top tips for choosing the right chick feed this spring
The Country Smallholder
|April 2023
Joanna Palmer, Nutritionist for Smallholder Range offers advice on choosing the right feed for your chicks
From hatching, feeding good quality chick crumbs on an ad-lib basis will help to get chicks off to a great start. Smallholder Range Baby Chick Crumbs offer an age-appropriate, easy-to-eat balanced feed that should be fed until the chicks are 6-8 weeks of age. They will then be ready to slowly move onto grower pellets for the remainder of their growing period. To ensure a smooth changeover, the crumb and pellets should be mixed together over the course of at least 7 to 10 days to allow the chicks to get used to their new feed. Smallholder Range Poultry Grower Pellets are small in diameter at just 2.5mm, making the transition from crumb easier than with larger pellets. Smallholder Range Baby Chick Crumbs and Poultry Grower Pellets have been carefully formulated to ensure that your chicks are provided with the right amount of nutrients, including a balance of vitamins and minerals, to prevent deficiencies and encourage steady growth. In addition, chick grit should be provided separately to aid digestion.
