In Wellington last weekend, Eoin Morgan’s men burgled a four-run win despite a wonderful century from home captain Kane Williamson.
Chris Woakes bowled brilliantly to defend 15 in the final over and close the game out. New Zealand will feel they should have won though.
England felt the same in Dunedin four days later but somehow stumbled from 267-1 in the 38th over to 335-9 by the end of the 50th after being asked to bat first.
They should have posted a total close to 400 and put the match and series completely out of New Zealand’s grasp.
But a collapse of 6-21 saw them blow what had been a great start and it was that implosion combined with a Ross Taylor masterclass that gave the hosts a dramatic win with three balls to spare to tie the series.
