Chris Silverwood has a word of warning for the IPL 2020. In a year of virtually little cricket, it might seem out of place for a coach of a foreign team to be worried. But he has his reasons.
Without a World Cup to follow, cautionary tales might seem out of place. But Silverwood, unlike most international coaches this year, has been busy lately with international commitments for England at home. Being in a biosecure bubble is added pressure on high profile engagements and Silverwood believes teams in the IPL, being in a similar environment, might be testing on the England cricketers.
Although the ICC Twenty20 World Cup is now a year away instead of a month, Silverwood believes that the high-intensity matches in the IPL will help England cricketers prepare for the 2021 edition. However, while he is happy about the prospect of such preparation as well as the fact that the players have lucrative contracts, he is afraid of burn out.
