Contador Confirms Retirement Means Retirement

Despite calls for un año mas, Spaniard won’t race again but will focus on developing home-grown talent as he calls time on his eventful career

Two days before the Vuelta finished in Madrid, Alberto Contador’s personal press officer, Jacinto Vidarte, told Cycling Weekly that the Spaniard expected to slip quietly into retirement at the end of the race. Within 24 hours, Contador-mania, which had been building throughout the race, erupted following his dashing victory on the Alto de l’Angliru and triumphant parade on the final day in his home city of Madrid.
