The Supreme Court on Monday directed Congress president Rahul Gandhi to explain his alleged attribution to the court, the phrase ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Rafale deal case.

A Bench, led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, clarified that the court had “no occasion to record any view or finding or make any observation as allegedly attributed to the court by the respondent [Mr. Gandhi]” in its April 10 judgment, which concerned a legal question about the admissibility of certain published documents as evidence in the Rafale review petitions.
