FREDDIE GRANT says Non-League footballers will be playing purely for love and enjoyment this season – and that’s why he’s joined Slough Town.
The 24-year-old former Wealdstone and Maidenhead United left back has signed for joint-bosses Neil Baker and Jon Underwood after moving on from Bath City because of the travelling.
Grant says the Covidhit campaigns and limited football over the last 18 months has made players acutely aware of why they started playing football in the first place.
“It’s a bit of a statement but if every club and every manager said no one in Non-League is getting paid, I think every footballer would still be at the same club they’re at,” Grant told The NLP.
“Forget about the money. Having a year off from football has been tough. Getting up on a Saturday, having a good breakfast and getting ready for a competitive game of football in front of crowds is the routine.
