Rapid globalization and urbanization have led to an increase in energy demand and consumption. This thought-provoking analysis aims to address energy-related issues by presenting solutions and ways that can contribute towards creating an energy-secure society, where people will understand the need to adopt energy-efficient choices in their daily lives.

How Should We Save Energy? - Be ‘Energy Wise Energy Rise'

Energy consumption is one of the most pressing issues our society is grappling with today, owing to global energy crisis, climate change, and environmental degradation. Children represent tomorrow’s decision-makers and contribute to energy consumption in the present. There is a growing emphasis on promoting energy literacy through education and outreach initiatives through a variety of formal and informal settings. An energy-literate citizen can not only trace energy wastage and think in terms of energy systems, but also knows how much energy they use, for what purpose, and where the energy comes from. This makes it imperative to train schoolchildren, teachers, and parents to find ways to communicate about energy and energy use in meaningful ways so that they are able to make informed energy use decisions based on an understanding of impacts and consequences.

The objective of such efforts is to cultivate climate/energy-literate individuals, who are capable of understanding, communicating, and making informed decisions about energy, weather, climate, their functions, and impacts. With this in mind, India’s leading power distribution company BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), collaborated with the Directorate of Education, (DOE) Delhi, and launched a new energy education initiative called ‘Energy Wise Energy Rise’. This program is designed to strengthen informal energy education training and project participation in Delhi government schools.
