RYAN Gosling and Eva Mendes have come to a crossroads in an under-the-radar romance. Although they were once often spotted at restaurants or on leisurely strolls,they’re now rarely seen together in public, and have become one of Hollywood’s most reclusive couples. So it might not be surprising, given Eva’s notoriously private nature, that she hasn’t accompanied Ryan on the red carpet in two years.

But this time was different. Eva’s conspicuous absence at the Feb. 26 Academy Awards — when Ryan was up for a Best Actor Oscar — had people asking just how she could possibly be missing in action for what could have been her lover’s once-in-a-lifetime chance. It turns out there could be a very good — but heartbreaking — reason. Sources claim that the day before the ceremony, the couple got into a blowout fight after Eva rejected Ryan’s pleas to attend the awards show — because she was fed up with how close he has become with his redhot La La Land costar, Emma Stone!

“Ryan desperately wanted Eva by his side,” an insider says. “He told her how bad it looked when she wasn’t there when he won his Golden Globe in January and that he was tired of making excuses for her. Ryan said that if she wasn’t going to support him on the biggest night of his career, then when would she ever? Eva snapped back that he shouldn’t be worried, because Emma would be there for him.

“Ryan stormed out of the house, and friends aren’t sure if he returned at all that night. But now, Eva may not even want him back. She’s ready to call it quits on their relationship.”
