Drew Raises The Stakes

With a New Series (a Vampire Comedy!) in the Works and a Possible Talk Show, Drew Barrymore Embraces Change.

As a veteran of E.T., Drew Barrymore knows that otherworldly event have the greatest impact when they’re grounded in human relationships. She makes that point again in Santa Clarita Diet, a comedy due on Netflix in 2017, in which she and Timothy Olyphant (Justified) play a restless suburban couple whose lives are upended after Drew’s character, Sheila, turns into a vampire. “Everybody goes through times where they need a wake-up call,” says the actress-producer, 41, who’s had a few of her own recently. Her marriage to third husband Will Kopelman, 38, ended in August, but her career is flourishing: In addition to her new series, she’s reportedly in discussions to host a talk show. She opens up about new beginnings and standing strong.
