Magherafelt-Born Brain Surgeon Revisits Former School

A COUNTY Derry-born brain surgeon, who featured in a televised documentary, recently returned back to where his career first began.
Roddy O’Kane, who is originally from Magherafelt, was invited back as a special guest to his former school’s prize giving ceremony, which was held last Tuesday evening.
Dr O’Kane is currently a consultant neurosurgeon in Glasgow, where he lives with his wife and three children.
After completing his A-Levels at St Mary’s Grammar School in Magherafelt, Roddy studied medicine at the University of Glasgow.
Following his graduation, he went on to complete basic surgical training in the West of Scotland before undertaking his Higher Neurosurgical training at the Leeds General Infirmary.
He then completed a Fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery at Sick Kids Hospital Toronto.
