ALIVE
|October 2016
Without doubt, it is Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
On Sunday 16 August 2009, 23- years-old Usain Bolt from Jamaica became the fastest runner in the world when he ran 100 metres in a world record time of 9.58 seconds. This works out to 37.58 kilometres/ hour (km/h).
To recognise this outstanding achievement he was awarded the medal of the Order of Jamaica at the National Honours and Awards Ceremony on 20 October 2009.
In Rio Olympics (2016) Bolt won gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 400m relay once again but his speed was not as fast as in 2009. He took 9.81 seconds to cover 100 metres which comes to 36.7 km/hr. Today he is 30 and even eight years have affected him.
The sprint star Usain Bolt, who holds the Olympic and world titles and world records in the 100m, 200m was honoured as the ‘fastest man in the world’. Bolt’s haul of nine golds is the joint highest among Olympic athletics.
