Why You Are Significant
iBelieve Magazine
|March 2017
Don’t buy into the lie that you’re too small for God to use, or you could end up giving up on his promises for a bowl of soup, writes Sophia Barrett.
You are significant. I am significant. If I were the devil – which you’ll be glad to know I am not – I would want you to believe that you are insignificant. If I were the devil, I would want you thinking that it was only ‘little you’, and what on earth could you achieve?
Now, we would all be forgiven for thinking that, because I know I certainly have. I’m looking at world events like Syria, the financial crisis and I think to myself, where do I even start? What can I do about that? In those terms it is understandable that we feel insignificant.
But the fact is that you are significant. Even if it’s in your family, you are significant.
Parents, with your children, you are significant – even though at times it doesn’t feel like it when you ask them to tidy their room several times and it still doesn’t get done.
There is another thing, though, that I would want you to believe if I were the devil… that is that your life doesn’t affect anybody else; that it’s your life and you can do whatever you want with it. But the fact is, that’s not what the Bible says. The only reason the devil is trying to convince us that we are insignificant is because he knows that we ARE significant.
There’s an account in the Old Testament that tells us about this… it’s the story of Esau and Jacob. You have twin brothers who are born into an incredible family. Their grandfather was Abraham, who was plucked out of obscurity to be the father of many nations. They fell into this great family; they were not only incredibly wealthy, but also had this promise of blessing from God.
