Rajdweep from Assam was one of the recipients of best prize for his script ‘Ishqology’ at the first edition of Cinestaan India’s Storytellers Contest, held last year.
Young playwright, screenwriter and lyricist, Rajdweep was presented the award by superstar Aamir Khan. He made his debut as a scriptwriter with ‘Khel – The Game,’ an Assamese film by Ashok Kumar Bishoya in 2015. He has also written a number of scripts for plays, which have been staged across the State in various theatres. As a lyricist, Rajdweep penned the beautiful track, Jiri Jiri, the first full-length Assamese song in a Bollywood movie, ‘A Death in the Gunj’, as well as the Bihu song in Anurag Basu’s film ‘Jagga Jasoos’. In fact, he received Best Lyricist Award at the Assam State Film Awards, 2017 for his songs in the Assamese movie ‘Doronir Nirola Poja’.
How and when did you start writing plays and scripts?
I was always fascinated about writing. In college, I used to write songs and sometimes scripts for plays. It was only after I started working in the field of journalism, that I started writing professionally on serials for television in 20092010. My scripts were appreciated by the audience in Assam, and that gave me a boost. Slowly, I got to work on plays for mobile theatres in Assam. The job was suitable as it helped me grow as a writer and aided me financially as well. And so, I started to work more in the field of theatre. In 2013, I got an opportunity to work on a script for the Assamese film ‘Khel-The

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS
People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
