WHAT: State surgeon for the Arizona Army National Guard
WHERE: Gilbert, Ariz.
What is your role with the National Guard? Typically, I serve part-time as state surgeon for the Arizona Army National Guard and work full-time for the Veterans Health Administration hospital system in the emergency department at the Phoenix VA. But last March, I was designated commander of the medical joint task force, Task Force Med, in response to the pandemic. We took soldiers and airmen from the National Guard and made a composite unit, mostly of medical professionals. And we’ve been going nonstop ever since.
