Ar. Nilanjan Bhowal’s design for Anil and Vanduta’s Kerala style weekend home is a repository of age-old collectibles with stories and memories intertwined

Overlooking a green zone, a sprightly palm swaying in the cool evening air stands synonymous to the eclectic olio of memorable finds, all seeded harmoniously in this aesthetically traditional Kerala style home. The tranquil retreat boasts of an environmentally sound structure with a personal energy that resonates with its name. For its homeowners, Vanduta and Anil Khurana, it is a sanctuary that keeps them in kinship with nature— serving of nature consolidated within wood and glass. True to the design sensibilities of its architect, Nilanjan Bhowal of Design Consortium, the house reflects his ideology of ‘Organitecture’, which he defines as an architectural vocabulary that synthesises the traditional learnings with the technologically advanced values. For the Khuranas, their home is a personal haven — a storybook of their treasured finds collected over years of memorable voyages. Nilanjan says he was lucky to get a free hand to design the place for which the Khuranas were equally delighted—to be able to pamper their cherished collectibles with a generous space.
