Much like the wider F&B industry, the current pandemic has had a significant impact on craft beer as well. For Manu Gulati, Founder of Effingut Breweries, priority shifted to ensuring the health and safe passage of their staff as they went back to their hometowns. “With support from the government, we first started home delivery of food, followed by the unique opportunity to not only offer consumers growlers from our own brewpubs but also set up our own retail stores,” he tells TMM. To begin with, Gulati plans to take Effingut 2 Go, their retail craft beer chain, across Mumbai and Pune in the next 6 months.

“With dine-in restarting, the road to normalcy will be long and arduous but we do have a future to look forward to,” he adds.
Can you take us to the early days of your passion for beer and how you decided to get into the business?
Having developed a love for whisky, I always had spirited debates with a friend who introduced me to craft beer. These intrigued me enough to deep dive into the world of craft beer and I never looked back. My passion turned into a thirst for knowledge that got me to Brewlab in UK where I did my diploma to earn my brewing credentials. Work met passion when I came back to India and launched Effingut in 2014.
What were some of the challenges you faced when you started the microbrewery business?
