With just around six weeks to go for the January session of the twin-mode JEE (Main) 2019, there are apprehensions whether the move is beneficial or not. Toppers feel it’s a good move as students will not be under undue pressure to crack it in one go as now they get two chances. If one doesn’t do well in the January session, then s/he can make it up in the April session. “I feel this is very advantageous for the students. During our time we did not have a chance for two exams. So if the student does not do well in one exam, he has the next exam to focus on,” says Parth Lathuria, AIR 3 in JEE (Main) 2018.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the first session of JEE (Main) 2019 in January and the second in April (See Box for details).
Impact on board exams: Will it be positive or negative?
The CBSE and other boards usually conduct the Class 12 exams in March. So, appearing for JEE (Main) in January could be stressful for some of the candidates. “The January exam is a bit of a disadvantage to the appearing students because the time to focus on the boards will get disrupted for 10 to 15 days,” says Rakesh Yadav who is a teacher at SRS International School, Faridabad.
