THE Heuchera has experienced an explosion onto the market in the past few years, with new and exciting varieties, bred by specialist nurseries in its native North America, along with France and the UK. These countries have taken a rather dull forest carpet plant, albeit a reliable and tough one, and turned it into a ‘must have’ plant, one that now has the ability to be highly addictive to collectors due to the myriad of foliage, colours and form. A compact plant that gives year-round interest, it will succeed virtually anywhere in the garden. We find them particularly successful in containers, indispensable as ground cover and even fabulous in hanging baskets.
