Doing their bit
Devon Life
|March 2020
Enjoy a day out and do your bit for the planet. CHRISSY HARRIS finds out how Devon’s attractions are pulling together to reduce plastic waste

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people come to have fun in our theme parks, zoos, museums, wildlife parks and other tourist destinations.
That’s a lot of coffee cups. And drinks bottles. And straws. The plastic waste produced by visitors to Devon’s huge variety of attractions soon stacks up.
This year, however, things are going to be different.
Many of our top tourist destinations are now making it easier for everyone to reduce their plastic footprint while they enjoy a day out, testing the latest rollercoaster ride or hanging out with some wild animals.
Simple changes, such as getting rid of single-use plastic cups and bottles, using biodegradable bags in gift shops and installing water fountains are just some of the efforts being made to reduce waste across the county’s top attractions.
