A few weeks ago, Sarie food editor and cooking programme host Herman Lensing asked me if I would join him for a recording of his show on Via TV. He is in the process of producing a cookbook as an ode to his late mom and wanted me to cook with him and share a food memory about my own late mother.
I immediately remembered a black A5 notebook in which my mom wrote down recipes and notes from her favourite radio programmes, from family members and the aunties who lived in our home town of Bonnievale. Those aunties could cook! And they would serve their families wonderful meals every night.
