The portable distro doesn't release often, but its many users - including Mayank Sharma - are always on the lookout for updated versions.

Slax 11.2

IN BRIEF

A nimble little distro, Slax is one of a handful of portable distros that's designed to run from a removable medium like a USB stick, but can also be anchored to a hard disk. Originally based on Slackware, the distro has been using Debian's Stable branch for several years.

SPECS

CPU: Any x86 computer

Memory: 512MB

HDD: Not required

Build: Either 32- or 64-bit

Back in the day, Slax made a name for itself as being one of the easiest distros to customise, despite being based on the unforgiving Slackware. Even after all these years the distro hasn’t lost its charm and is just as functional as ever.

The latest 11.2 release comes after around two years of inactivity. As always, the release is available for both 32- and 64-bit machines and its ISO image weighs in under 300MB, making it a wonderful option for powering virtually all kinds of machines.
