JOHN CALLAHAN PASSES AWAY AT 66

On Friday, March 27, paramedics responded to a call and rushed the actor to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, CA, where he was put on life support. Daughter Kaya Callahan and ex-wife Eva La Rue (ex-Maria, AMC et al) were notified immediately and rushed to the hospital from Los Angeles, where they were able to see the actor for a limited time before having to exit the hospital. They were then notified of Callahan’s passing shortly after midnight by phone. The actor’s death is not related to COVID-19.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, Callahan made his soap debut as GH’s Leo Russell (1984-85), then played Eric Stavros on FALCON CREST (1986-88) and Craig Hunt on SANTA BARBARA from 1989-91 before landing his long-running AMC role. His Edmund was in popular pairings with Brooke and Maria, and he was married to Maria’s portrayer, Eva La Rue, from 1996-2005. They welcomed Kaya, Callahan’s only child, in 2001. The actor’s last daytime role was as DAYS’s Dr. Baker from 2008-10.
