Varun Dhawan: On A High Note
STARDUST INDIA
|December 2015
In a competitive business like showbiz, they say, it's easier if one has a filmy background or backing to make it to the top. However, today, the rules have changed. In fact, there are no rules in the game. Star-kids are judged for their choices just as much as others. Its an arduous effort for them to stay afloat owing to constant speculations about career choices and conjectures about other aspects of life. With constant spot-light on the actor, he's still the medias most adorable, and the audiences most loved. Varun Dhawan, who's not one to restrict himself on celluloid, has had a thunderous win this year with back-to-back blockbusters. Just before the release of his next, Dilwale, the garrulous actor talks to Pooja Sharma about romance, risks and recommendations.

Were you jittery sharing the frame with Shah Rukh Khan, in Dilwale?
Not really. In fact, not at all. Firstly, as an actor, I do films for a reason. I see my character, what the script, and who the director is. That’s how I choose my films. Shah Rukh Sir doesn’t behave like a superstar. He behaves like a regular actor. He’s very giving, and it was a joyful association with him for Dilwale. I was comfortable sharing the frame with him, but he made me even more comfortable.
SRK is a nocturnal workaholic and self-proclaimed insomniac, whereas you are a morning person. Did you adapt to his style of working?
SRK is not just a night person; he’s a morning, evening and an all-seasons person (laughs). I guess I managed it. It’s a lot of fun spending time with him. We also did a lot of work together. And in the free time, we either hit the gym or PlayStation. He would take us out to chill when work would get too stressful. I didn’t sleep much during the schedule. It was very easy working with him for the simple reason that he’s an amazing actor. He’s always encouraging and he treated me like a baby while working on the film. He helped me in a lot of scenes, and told me to do it in a certain way, which he and I would discuss. I had a nice time working with him. I was working with such senior people, be it SRK or Rohit Shetty, who know so much about cinema and the kind of genre Dilwale falls under. They are the masters of this genre. It was a lot of fun.
One lesson you learnt from Shah Rukh Khan.
His passion and drive towards films, there’s no fixed time that he would work from or wrap up at. It’s not an office job. He lives films 24*7. You eat, breathe, live cinema, that’s one thing I imbibed.
