Industry leaders chart out the road to self-reliance

The Covid-19 pandemic has made a strong case for encouraging and empowering local manufacturing in India. PM Modi’s clarion call for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ or Self-reliant India is certainly a step ahead in the right direction with the emphasis on going ‘vocal for local’. This call, which is a logical extension of the Make in India initiative, will go a long way in positively transforming India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and capacities. Importantly, it is a much needed measure to inspire and strengthen the MSME segment in the country.

Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign also looks to transform challenges into an opportunity. For example, supply chain disruption has been one of the biggest challenges that came to the fore because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But with Government’s push on self-reliance, it has actually prompted the industry to reorient and restructure its ecosystems with strong focus on local sourcing.
