Steel structures can be significantly lighter than concrete equivalents and require less extensive foundations, reducing the environmental impact of the build. Less and lighter materials mean they are easier to move around, reducing transportation and fuel use. Steel is also durable, non-combustible, and fire-resistant. When properly designed and constructed, steel framing can preserve its structural integrity in the event of a fire and exposure to prolonged elevated temperatures.

Most steel in buildings in India are used in pre-engineered buildings. Of course, steel also plays a large role in brick-and-mortar edifices too.
