Love At First Fight

However, this novel bond shared by a newly-wed couple is put to test every day. From waking up to each other’s faces every morning to having breakfast together and going back to bed with your loved one can be life-altering experiences although they may seem like insignificant ones. More often than not, marriage is a completely different venture for every person even though they may have been in a serious relationship with someone for awhile. When we are invested in a relationship, we try our best not to lose the person we are head over heels in love with. However, this perspective gradually changes once a couple gets married as they refrain from keeping the flame alive. The small gestures that partners do for their beloved during the courtship period may seem less important once they are married. This can be disastrous in some cases as the other person might feel like they are not being appreciated. To keep your love blooming, it is important to keep doing sweet nothings.

Speaking of the compromises couples make, one of the most dreaded days is when a couple faces the first glitch. Although the initial days are studded with love, excitement and a lot of pampering, the first fight after marriage can be one of the most stressful ones. I recently travelled to Bangalore for a conference. I had a couple of hours to spare in the evening and decided to visit Priya, my childhood friend from school. We hadn’t kept in touch, so when I found out she had gotten married, it took me by surprise, quite a pleasant one. She had been married for almost a year and being the sceptic that I am, I wanted to know everything about the so-called lifelong commitment. So, I asked her personal things like if she and her husband ever had nasty fights, how they managed to stay in love even through the rough patches and whether marriage actually is all that it is hyped up to be. She then proceeded to tell me about their first fight after they got married.
