Winter 2016

Tired of  strict car rules back home, A group of Aussies came to America and went wild on the streets.

Turbos Up Down Under

If you ever get frustrated with all of the little setbacks and complications of a project car, you can at least console yourself with the fact that your engine and your chassis are located on the same continent. That’s not something Harry Haig and his crew of horsepower junkies could claim when they bought a junkyard ’69 Chevelle and stuffed a twin-turbo big-block under—or should we say through—the hood.

Let’s back up a bit. Everyone knows Australians love cars. Harry and his mates all build and race in Australia, and after conquering their home streets, strips, and everything in between, Harry, along with his friends Shannon “Pyro” Jennings and Brett Ford, set out to find new tarmac to tear up. That brought the trio all the way to America in 2015 for Hot Rod Drag Week, the endurance rally of drag racing known for the most extreme street cars in the world. The only trouble was, there hadn’t been any room in their carry-on luggage for a hot rod, so the hunt was on to find an appropriate chariot from which the three Aussies could enjoy the festivities.
