JOEL CHOO
AGE: 22 LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON? The young lad is following in his dad’s acting footsteps — he is currently filming Ch 5 drama Faculty, where he plays a competitive swimmer. “My character has a father who's also a good swimmer, and he's always pressurised by his dad to be the best,” Joel explains. In real life, he says his dad has a game plan for him too. “He wanted me to learn driving so I can go to castings easily. And since I'm stiff in my movements, he said I should pick up ballet dancing to improve my body language. His idea is that you have to be good at everything since actors don't just act these days. He also told me not to pick up bad habits when I'm in showbiz, like drinking and clubbing.” (Laughs)
DAD’S THE WAY
Joel says people do compare his acting chops with his father's, but he doesn't mind. The mild mannered chap was rather shy during our interview, but explains that he usually takes some time to warm up. “I'm quite cheerful, so I’d like to play dark and emotional roles,” he shares. “It's more fun to play someone you're not!”
