Knives Illustrated Sep/Oct 2023 - The September/October issue of Knives Illustrated magazine includes a special section on fixed-blade hunting knives. This section includes four feature articles with an emphasis on lightweight, versatile blades suitable for remote backcountry hunts where gear selection is critical. There’s a review of the Benchmade Raghorn by Knives Illustrated editor Steve Barlow, and a test of the Hogue Extrak by regular contributor Tim Stetzer. It’s hard to think of hunting knives without Buck Knives coming to mind. This issue includes a closeup look at the new midsize Buck Brahma that’s sure to become a fan favorite. Author Jim Cobb puts the Hunter from White River Knife & Tool to the test to complete the section. In other features, Cobb presents a profile of popular custom knifemaker Dan Tope. Hilary White provides a look at a company that’s been flying under the radar with her review of the A100 folder from the Czech firm Acta Non Verba. If you’re looking for something in a capable defensive blade, check out Frank Jardim’s review of the Excalibur out-the-front dagger from Templar Knife. If bushcraft is your obsession, you’re sure to enjoy the pair of articles by expert Reuben Bolieu in this issue. First, he puts three models from Knives By Nuge to work. Then, he provides a side-by-side comparison of two great blades by TOPS: the Sheep Creek and the Woodcraft. If you prefer a fixed blade for everyday carry, you’ll want to check out our take on the Spyderco Enuff 2. Rounding out the issue is a story on two knives – a fixed blade and a folder – from Smith & Sons.
