Less than a decade ago, the stretch of land between the islands of Taipa and
Coloane was just a piece of landfill full of rubbish that could not be burnt at
the local incinerator. Five years from now, that same piece of land will be
home to around 100,000 employees, mostly in hotels and casinos.
The transformation of Macau is still in its early days and but it\'s already seeing
some new names: Donatella Versace is to design the new SJM (one of the
gaming operators) Palazzo; Steve Wynn, with his exquisite taste, will bring us
another palace; and then there is the beautiful “jewellery box” that will be
MGM’s new property. Not to mention the new phases of the Galaxy and
Melco’s Studio City.
