It cannot be denied that much effort is being done by the Church in making the message of the Gospel meaningful to the realities we live in. However, in all honesty, we recognize that such a mission is a continuous challenge which demands a great spirit of observation and humility to learn from the secular world, not just in terms of language and techniques but, most importantly, to try to understand the culture, mentality, and the longings of the people with whom we are called to share the Gospel.
The overwhelming prevalence of hatred, poverty, and injustice outside and within the Church tells us that people still thirst for God. But are we capable of effectively communicating to them the faith and values we uphold? Mission today requires creativity: to find new and more effective ways to communicate the same Good News that Jesus shared with us.
But this creativity requires that, for the message to be effective and life-giving, we must, first, be good observers and listeners in order to be attuned to the world we live in.
