“It would take years for India to have it’s own home-grown technology when it comes to space exploration.” India not only proved this statement wrong but also broke huge barriers along it’s way to glory. The Chandrayaan – 2 was not only the first Indian mission to explore the lunar region with home-grown technology, but also the first Indian expedition to attempt soft landing on the lunar surface! This is the first space mission to conduct a soft landing on the Moon’s South Polar Region. Why is this mission great? What is this mission’s importance? What’s the reason behind this mission? Apart from the fact that this mission is totally operated with home-grown technology, India is the 4th country to ever try soft landing on the lunar surface. After Chandrayaan 1, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) immediately started working on this mission. Why? This was because of the fact that Chandrayaan 1 discovered water molecules on the moon’s surface. Secondly, the South Polar Region is the part which has not been explored till now. It is the part which is in the shadows most of the time. Therefore, this effort will help in improving our understanding of the Moon — discoveries that will benefit India and humanity as a whole. These insights and experiences aim at a paradigm shift in how lunar expeditions are approached for years to come — propelling further voyages into the farthest frontiers.
