Experts now agree that we are in the midst of a Sixth Mass Extinction. In the previous five, which were caused by natural events such as a huge volcanic eruption that covered the Earth with particles, collision with an asteroid, and other factors, between 70% and 95% of the then existing species of plants, animals, and microorganisms were wiped out. The last (fifth) extinction happened 66 million years ago, when the huge dinosaurs disappeared. Fortunately, life on Earth has always bounced back. But it took millions of more years to restore the number of species, and enlarge biodiversity. Although, only an estimated 2% of the species that ever lived on this planet, are still alive, scientists contend that diversity is higher. It was lucky that humans evolved in this era. Sadly, the rate at which species are dying in the present, or vanishing from the face of Earth, is higher than ever before.
This has prompted Vedansh to weave around a story of wildlife as he has seen and experienced in the wild through his lens and rich interactions with local inhabitants, experts and his peer group. The coffee table book is interspersed with beautiful photographs of various species and amazing story of his journey.
The author, Vedansh is 18-year-old student who is involved in wildlife photography since the age of 12. He has held exhibitions of his photographs and has been a speaker in international forums to represent his thought process and actions towards wildlife and nature conservation. He is hopeful of a new world where people are sensitized towards various species of animals, birds and other beings that are currently threatened due to lack of empathy and misinformation amplified by a consumerist lifestyle. Through this book he wants to inspire his fellow youth in exploring, appreciating and conserving nature. Right now he is in first year of undergraduate in Environmental Engineering, Honours Co-opeartive Program at University of Waterloo, Canada.
