Dear Readers,

September 6, 2018, is going to be remembered as one of the historic days in the future. The apex body of the democracy stood for the freedom of the LGBTQ community and decriminalized Section 377. A five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra pronounced its verdict on a batch of petitions, decriminalizing part of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, 1861 that deals with consensual sex between adults. While the entire nation was busy celebrating the freedom of rainbow, I was on the way for a meeting and my conversation with the (literate) cab driver made me think, ‘Is the verdict the end of the fight?’ Well, of course not! Mindsets have to change.

I think cinema and entertainment as a powerful medium can contribute to this, but then the limited reach of these mediums might not solve the problem. Our screening of Still About Section 377 in August 2018 was a step in the direction and we hope that such initiatives might work for the bigger cause, we as a democratic country are striving for. Let us unite so that the love finds the way and respect too!
