We all dream of setting off to see the world in our Land Rovers, but that’s become a bit tricky just recently. So maybe now is a good time to rediscover the appeal of our own back yards.
That’s what a team from Land Rover’s US arm did a few years ago, when they set out to drive across America from coast to coast on unsurfaced roads. It’s an incredible undertaking – and one you can read about, starting this month, in the next two issues of The Landy.
Talking of unsurfaced roads, we’re trialling a new regular feature this month. Our sister magazine 4x4 is famous for its green lane roadbooks – and with so many Land Rover owners being keen on exploring Britain’s rights of way, we thought the idea might prove equally popular in The Landy. We only use lanes which are legal, of course, and completely sustainable – we’re kicking off this month in North Yorkshire, and we’d love to hear what our readers make of it!
There’s a slew of interesting vehicles in this month’s issue, too. A restored 90 with a 3.0-litre BMW diesel engine is our cover star, and you’ll also find a delightful Series I that’s been given a new lease of life courtesy of a Tdi engine implant.
A Series I is quite the investment, but you’ll still get plenty of them for the price of the new Land Rover we’ve test-driven this month. How much for a Discovery Commercial? We were startled to learn we were driving £73,000’s worth of van – and even more to realise that actually, even at that much money it felt worth every penny…
