We witness the inception of various innovative projects with investments of billions of dollars on a daily basis. Indubitably, financial institutions like banks play a fundamentally crucial role by providing the funds to such clients that range from corporations to large projects, even governments. In cases where the funding required is exceedingly high, two or more lenders may combine resources to cover the total loan of an individual borrower, and such facility is referred to as Syndicated Bank Facilities or syndicated loans. The objective is to primarily strew the risk that would ordinarily be present for a single borrower for the reason that any default in repayment of high loans could have an appallingly crippling effect on a single lender. The group of lenders known as ‘syndicate’ may be approached for a fixed amount, a credit line or a combination of both, by the single borrower. While the objective of syndicate loans is to enable customer’s demand of large long-term loans be met, it is important that the syndicate agreement be in place which encompasses the mutual agreement to contract, and designate the structure, time period of the syndicate loans, and rules related to the same. Financial covenants in the agreement ensure that the borrower meets the necessary standards, principally to protect the interest of the lenders.
