Never What If Group Ltd is the parent company of Propiteer Hotels Ltd, which has been selected by the council as preferred developer for the former Quality Hotel site.
Work is not expected to start on the planned Hilton Garden Inn hotel until 2024. Plymouth City Council has confirmed it expects plans for the building to be submitted this year but work is unlikely to start in 2023 as originally hoped.
The Essex-based company has already developed the Hampton by Hilton hotel at Exeter Airport, valued at £13.9m. But its newly published financial statements for the year to the end of June 2021 reveal a pre-tax loss of £1.24m as the company as battered by Covid and Brexit.
It reported that in 2021 business was hit by Covid and Brexit, which damaged consumer confidence, global supply chains, and inflation. And it stressed: “Our outlook for 2023 remains challenging.”
