It comes after those north of the Border voted for a 72-hour walkout in what would be their first national strike over pay.

The Scottish Government said the offer represents a £61.3million investment in junior doctor pay, following negotiations with the British Medical Association Scotland.

If accepted, it will be delivered by a 6.5 per cent pay increase in 2023-24, with three per cent added to an already agreed 4.5 per cent uplift for 2022-23.

The Scottish Government said that would amount to a "cumulative" 14.5 per cent.
