Hailing from Klang, Malaysia, Nor Tijan Firdaus, an artist specialising in sculpture with a minor in painting, embarks on a new chapter in her artistic journey in her most recent exhibition, Seek. Following her impactful debut solo exhibition, New Formal, where she reimagined the works of western as well as Malaysian modern masters, in Seek, Nor Tijan delves deeper into discarded materials, sustainability, and materialism.
During her time as a masters-level student at UiTM, she was particularly drawn to a seminar on sustainability in art and design, which profoundly influenced her. This experience sparked her contemplation of the environment and the repercussions of waste, which she seamlessly integrated into her art. Juggling the demands of a young family also heightened her awareness of accumulating discarded items, leading to reflections on the pervasive throwaway culture associated with technology, clothing, toys, and furniture.
