HORDES of holidaymakers triggered a 20-mile bank holiday traffic jam by fleeing resorts amid fears of snow from a "Scandinavian shiver".
Beaches across the country emptied as frost and temperatures of -3C were predicted to hit this week.
And families who stayed put at home had hopes dashed of more Easter sunshine as they faced a chilly 7C and rain.
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: "Easter Monday was cooler - and a change in wind direction from a warm southerly to a cooler easterly meant temperatures dipping." The Bank Holiday Monday quitters started to leave their break spots from 11am.
