What is Qi?

Qi translates as air and material energy, life force, or energy flow. Qi is energy in the very broadest sense possible. Qi is universal. In traditional Chinese culture, Qi is believed to be a vital energy for all living entities. Qi embraces all manifestations of energy, from the most material aspects of energy such as the earth beneath your feet, flesh and blood and man-made objects, to the most immaterial aspects such as light, movement, heat, nerve impulses, thoughts and emotions.

Qi is in a state of continuous flow, transforming from one aspect of Qi into another aspect endlessly. It cannot be destroyed. It simply transforms.

What is Qi in Feng Shui?

In Feng Shui terms, Qi is the energy that emanates from landforms such as mountains and water, and from man-made structures such as roads, highways and buildings surrounding our living space. Qi from the environment is the central concept in Feng Shui.
