Autocar Professional's April 15, 2026 Edition is out! Strap: FY26 delivered record-breaking volumes across every major segment — but as the industry enters FY27, cautious optimism is the order of the day. This edition marks a landmark year for India's automotive industry, one that delivered across the board with all major segments recording historic highs. Industry volumes approached the 3 crore mark, with double-digit growth registered across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and tractors. The year, however, did not begin on that note. The first half was weighed down by weak consumer sentiment, affordability pressures, and policy uncertainty. The decisive inflection came in the second half, driven by a GST 2.0 intervention that reset affordability and unlocked deferred demand. Automakers moved swiftly to capitalise, amplifying the impact through tactical pricing and offers that sustained momentum through the year's close. Yet even as FY26 ended on a high, the industry is stepping into FY27 with a sharper eye on risk. Supply chain concerns, rising energy costs, and input price pressures are building steadily in the background. The ongoing West Asia crisis continues to weigh on logistics and energy markets, while inflationary trends are beginning to re-emerge. The prospect of an El Niño year adds further uncertainty, particularly for rural demand. Price increases, while not immediate, appear increasingly inevitable.
