What's that NOISE?

Creaky joints, clicky jaw, ringing in your ears... should you be worried about the noises your body's making?
-

Most of those strange noises our bodies make are normal – just a bit embarrassing at times! However, those creaks, squeaks and rumbles could also be your body's way of alerting you to something else that's going on. Here's what you need to know.

A clicking sound that is noisy and loud when you chew is common and can be caused by joint issues. 'It may be that you have arthritis or wear-and-tear stresses as a result of chewing and grinding, but it's not often serious,' says Dr Deborah Lee. Massage your jaw muscles during the day to help relieve any tension.
When to get help
If your jaw locks or if you have any accompanying symptoms, such as an earache or tinnitus, as it could be Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder.

Temperature and humidity changes can cause your nose to sound extra musical. The good news? It's rarely anything to worry about. Clear things out with a decongestant for colds or an antihistamine for allergies. 'It could also be nasal polyps lining the nasal passage,' says Dr Sarah Jenkins. Your GP can take a look and advise on treatment.
When to get help
If you've suffered a nasal trauma, the sound might indicate a tear in the cartilage.
